Recently, Graeme Mickelberg, Stan Hanaford and Mark Butler were interviewed by an ABC journalist.
The interview will be aired by the ABC in the following media:
- An online article will be posted on ABC online this coming Sunday 12th July morning.
- A TV article will be aired on ABC News this coming Sunday 12 th July at 7.00pm.
- A radio article aired on ABC Breakfast or the 13th July Morning program. Just which program will run it will depend on what other stories the producers decide to slot in.
The journalist advised that Minister Keogh was not prepared to be interviewed but his office provided a release that repeated the same message that we have had before ie. 'the matter is subject to inter-governmental consideration'. Comment: inordinately long through two budgets.
The RCB's claim for warlike service was formally initiated by a group of Army veterans in 2006 with substantial supporting evidence has been disputed by succesive Federal governments' DVA and Defence Personnel Ministers who maintained that the RCB service (1970-1989) to defend the Air Base Butterworth during the Communist Insurgency in Malaysia (1968-1989) was peactime service similar to Garrison duty in Australia.
The present situation is that the 2023 Defence Honours & Awards Tribunal's recommendations received by the currrent Minister Matt Keogh in August 2024 remain awaiting his decision.
