In a letter to the PM in January 2016, the RARA National President Michael von Berg MC OAM endorsed the RCB’s claim for warlike service. ” ….it is our contention that the facts surrounding the reasons for the RCB deployment has been a subterfuge to overcome the Labor Government’s dilemma to apply its electoral mandate to return all overseas troops and yet retain a strategic presence at Butterworth. This was achieved by deception to disguise the deployment for training purposes to the Australian public”

20160121 RARC letter to the PM
In about October 1988 I was at RCB with C coy 2/4.We were the first Australian company to move into the new lines, which was further up towards the OR,s mess. Anyhow I specifically remember one night at our lines we had some SASR blokes staying over. I remember them with there long, normal civie hair styles. These men were secretive, like in transit from doing some sort of hush hush secret shit. Something real was still happening as the CT,s were still a threat. Only I ,like many others never understood the significance of our presense until many years later
